Overview
The HXR-NX100 comes with Sony’s unique 20 megapixels 1.0-type Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor that delivers high resolution and fantastic low light performance, as well as offering more depth of field control as demanded by today’s diverse shooting requirements.
Three independent manual lens rings provide excellent creative control. A fixed Sony G series lens achieves 12x optical zoom, which can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom making use of the 1.0 type sensor to still deliver a native resolution 1920×1080 image. You can also double the zoom again using a sophisticated Digital Extender for a maximum 48x zoom. There is also an ND Filter function, allowing you to choose four conventional mechanical ND filter positions that will enhance your ability to work in any shooting scenario.
Additional advanced features include dual media slots, “SIMUL” or “RELAY” recording and independent record control. Recording formats are AVCHD, DV and XAVC S 50Mbps for multiple choices and high-quality images. Professional audio quality is made easy thanks to XLR connectors as standard and Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe supporting fully integrated wireless audio solutions, such as Sony’s UWP-D range.

Device Features
Features | Benefits: |
---|---|
“The Grand One” 1.0″-type Exmor R CMOS Sensor for stunning picture quality even in low light conditions | The sensor, which is approximately the same size as a Super 16mm film frame, delivers high resolution and fantastic low light performance, as well as offering more depth of field control as demanded by today’s diverse shooting requirements. High sensitivity and fantastic resolution with 20 megapixels (*1) deliver striking detail and colors, with minimum illumination 1.7 lux(*2).
(*1) 14,2 million effective pixels. |
Sony G lens with optical 12x zoom and visual loss-less Clear Image Zoom 24x | The “G Lens” is Sony’s original camera lens, designed and manufactured to the highest standards of optical performance. Through original Sony technologies, the “G Lens” achieves superb clarity and sharpness that maximizes the performance of Sony’s advanced imaging sensors and camera systems. The HXR-NX100 is supplied with a fixed 29 mm wide-angle Sony G lens. Ideal for capturing grand landscapes, it also provides up to 12x optical zoom, and can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom which is a Sony unique technology that incorporates By Pixel Super Resolution Technology that analyzes the input image to maintain full resolution. In addition, Digital Extender can double this range again, up to 48x zoom by cropping the scanned sensor area which still has more than full HD pixels. |
Three independent manual lens rings | The three lens rings enables smooth, natural adjustment of focusing, zooming and iris control. It can also be used in full auto mode or completely manual for maximum creative control. |
ND filter control mechanism | The HXR-NX100 is equipped with an ND Filter function, allowing you to choose four conventional mechanical ND filter positions (Clear, 1/4ND, 1/16ND, and 1/64ND) for better exposure and depth of field control in a bright scene). |
Dual media slots, “SIMUL” or “RELAY” recording, and independent record control | The HXR-NX100 is equipped with two memory card slots. The camcorder is compatible with SDXC and SDHC cards as well as Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. Two media slots can record in either “SIMUL” or “RELAY” mode. “SIMUL” mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory cards while “RELAY” mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first is full. The user can set up the two Start/Stop buttons on the HXR-NX100, one on the grip and one on the camcorder body,to independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in “SIMUL” mode. |
Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe | The Multi Interface Shoe (MI Shoe) has an electric interface in its mechanical attachment allowing the camcorder to communicate and control an attached accessory. Using an MI Shoe connection with sold separate optional adapter SMAD-P3, the audio signal from a UWP-D series wireless microphone package can be input from the wireless microphone receiver to the camcorder without an XLR cable. The power can be supplied from the camcorder to the receiver and a battery is not required for the receiver operation. When the battery is attached to the LED video light HVL-LBPC, the light can be switched ON and OFF from the camcorder which syncs with recording trigger. |
Multi-format recording | The HXR-NX100 records AVCHD and DV which are suitable for conventional workflow, and newly implemented XAVC S 50Mbps which realizes better image quality. |
Picture Profile | You can fine-tune the look of movies before shooting by adjusting parameters such as gamma, knee, black level, color model /level/phase and more. Adjusted parameters can be saved along with other settings as a profile, and up to six profiles can be stored for later recall. |
99 Camera Profiles | It is possible to save up to 99 camera settings under different profile numbers. User can copy the settings from one HXR-NX100 to another HXR-NX100 so that user can shoot with multiple cameras in the same settings(*3). Also, users can save camera settings for each scene, so that it is possible to recall proper settings for the scene immediately.
(*3) Only works exchanging among the HXR-NX100 camcorders. |
Timecode and HDMI embedded timecode output | Timecode and user bit settings are important features for professional applications. Timecode is essential for efficient non-linear editing of live footage from multiple NXCAM camcorders. Like other Sony NXCAM camcorders, HXR-NX100 timecode can be reset from the supplied infrared remote control unit, and this allows multiple cameras to be reset simultaneously for easy synchronisation. For extra sync versatility, time code and user bits can also be output via the camcorder’s HDMI jack. |
Intelligent Auto | The Intelligent Auto(*4) feature makes it easy to capture beautiful images in a wide variety of shooting situations. This handy feature automatically selects the optimum scene setting from three groups of ten scenes. For example, Intelligent Auto might detect that the user is walking while shooting and automatically select the “Walk” setting from the “Camera Shake” group to ensure that optimum image quality is achieved.
(*4) Image stabilisation is automatically set to ACTIVE mode when using the iAuto feature. |
Scene Selection | Scene Selection provides professional users with seven presets optimised for situations likely to be encountered on assignments. For example, the Sunrise & Sunset preset instantly optimises the camcorder settings for beautiful reproduction of sunsets or sunrises. The Spotlight preset is ideal for shooting events or similar situations that involve spotlights and stage lighting.
Scene Selection is just one more way that the HXR-NX100can make your job easier. |
