   We think things should not “rush” {Simple word for the worse done job}, but the opposite – more precision is welcome.

   When you design any kind of apparatus, the visual interface prevails over the others interfaces. The customers, respectively the device users would pay attention to visual details.

   Indicator Light Emitting Diodes are the good basis for a discussion.

   There is an option to hide the indicator element under the smoked glass or darkened crystal clear plastic. This tactic is often used to increase the influence like high-grade apparatus.

   The simplest way to mount the LED indicator on the panel is to create suitable hole diameter and insert the diode. 

   Example: Our design is battery powered and the power source status or some other visual information is displayed via few 3mm circle indicating LEDs.

   The intuitive way to solve the task is drilling a transitional hole.

   * For information: the different LED manufacturers have a slightly different as diameter and height LED items. 

    Let’s improve the visual experience adding our private invented method to create much attractively looking direct mounted LED. The topic will be rated high from hobby enthusiasts and creative person, who want to make their project to shine and looks cool and different.

   Now, we are explaining our knowledge.

    The Secret is the following:

   Firstly, we need to create the transitional hole with smaller than the outer diameter of LED.

   For 3 mm circle LED is suitable to use the 2.5 mm drill. {By Author}

    For 5 mm circle LED is suitable to use the 4 mm drill. {By Author}

    On the rear side of the panel, we need to create controlled semifinal drilling. We need to strongly press together a steel plate next to the plastic surface to keep the drill from going through the plastic entirely. 

   On the front side of the panel, we need to create lite countersunk. It needs to be done, non-standardly, with the higher diameter with about 50% over the used LED Diameter and one Very important thing. When we are creating a countersunk, the drilling machine needs to be adjusted to rotate slowly, in reverse direction (counterclockwise).  This allows polishing the finish, not a drilling aggressively. 

   The result is cool – the small pick step between the LOW inner hole diameter and Outer LED Diameter.

   Our design can be simply named:     The Wireless LED.

   The part of LED lens is used in a practice to create the transparent indication ability as part of IPx7 Protective cover.

   Under the transparent LED lens on a PCB is situated the projecting ultra-bright, high illumination small angle LED with crystal, not-diffused lens.

   The advantage of this combined technology is growing when the device cover will be often removed for a hardware access or any adjustments.

   The cover is a completely passive – without any flexible wires connected to our virtual LED.
